Letter: Private Hostels Are A Security Threat

Private hostels provide facilities to the out-station students but at the same time they are a serious security threat. Not only students but also numerous employees and daily wage workers stay at private hostels. Unfortunately there is no mechanism of check and balance of the people living in hostels.

After APS Peshawar massacre security is on high alert and there is a threat from terrorists for the whole Pakistan. So, the security institutions and government officials are struggling to make better security measurements. However, the private hostels have escaped the attention of security agencies so far.

We request the Federal Interior Minister to include all private hostels in government records and put forward a mechanism for the security of private hostels. If this matter is ignored, then it’s quite possible that terrorist can take advantage of these hostels. At the same time, government must ensure that students residing in private hostels are not bothered in any way during the process of developing a check and balance system.
