QUETTA: Balochistan Point assistant editor Mariyam Suleman has been honored as an instructor for the Civic Education Week 2018 in Washington DC this month. She will lead more than 100 selected alumni from Pakistan. Mariyam is Youth Exchange and Study (YES-USA) alumni and she earned her High School degree from Coquille High School, Oregon USA in 2012.
Mariyam Suleman is currently affiliated with the Balochistan Point as assistant editor. Previously, she has remained a regular contributor to the Balochistan Point. Mariyam holds master’s degree in sociology with special focus on sociology of literature.
Her contributions for the Balochistan Point include opinion articles, feature stories, data-driven articles and blog posts related to the issues of underprivileged. Her writings focus on allocation of government resources. She combines analysis with character driven storytelling about those impacted by the issues in Balochistan. Her writings have also been published in Dawn, Pak Voices, Baloch Hal, Global Voices, Tawar and Sahig.
She is authoress of “Bya Noken Rahan Shohaz Kane” or “Come! Let’s Discover a New Way”, a character driven travelogue in Balochi language based on experiences of her year-long stay in the US as an exchange student. She was awarded Allama Iqbal award by provincial government for her mentioned book.
She has also visited Thailand, Nepal, China and Azerbaijan for participation in seminars of various educational programs.
