Quetta: A tricycle distribution ceremony was held among the persons-with-disabilities here on Saturday under the aegis of the Social Welfare Department Balochistan.
As many as 30 tricycles were distributed among the persons-with-disabilities while 34 more would be given away to special persons shortly.
Secretary Social Welfare Department Dr. Kahoor, while talking to Balochistan Point, was of the view that there was need of further awareness regarding the rights of the persons with disabilities so that they get special treatment in the society at all levels. He said that Social Welfare Department has also contacted the traffic authorities to grant driving license to the persons with disabilities preferentially earlier than the due process for ordinary people.
The union leaders of the persons with disabilities expressed their gratitude towards the government for facilitating them.
Talking to Balochistan Express Director General Social Welfare Department Ms. Musarat Jabeen said that it was a longstanding demand of the persons with disabilities which was met today. When questioned by if the Social Welfare Department was also providing for the fuel and other maintenance expanses of the tricycles, she said that there was no such programme as yet.
Large number of people belonging to different organization attended the ceremony. Talking to this scribe, Assistant Director Admin At Social Welfare Department Sher Ahmed said that the provision of cycles was made possible from the discretionary funds of the Chief Minister Balochistan Nawab Sanaullah Khan Zehri, adding that all the applicants had applied for the same at CM house which, after approval were forwarded to Social Welfare Department. He said that purchase and distribution was executed by the Social Welfare Department
