Spreading drugs usage in Balochistan and the role of government

   By: Hazaran Raheem

Drugs are chemical substances that affect the Central Nervous System (CNS) and devastate the brain. When a person uses drugs for the first time, then he gets an artificial euphoria, and due to which he gets addicted to it.

Drugs destroy the whole nervous system and the person loses self-consciousness and thinking capacity. Drugs capture the life of its users in a boundary, the drug abducted neither have the consciousness of their family nor themselves, and they just become bound to themselves with drugs and remain a wilted body in society who no longer survive.

Drug addiction is such an evil which spreads in society and goes viral from one person to another. A society develops by its people, when people become victims of drugs addiction then the society cannot develop.

According to the report of Islamabad Senate Standing Committee on Interior and Narcotics, around 7 million people in Pakistan are drug addicts while 700 people die every day in country due to drugs intake. Drug addiction has become an epidemic disease in Pakistan. The number of drugs user is rising day by day.

The best study on the subject of most addictive drugs was published in 2007 by David Nutt in the Lancet (a weekly peer-reviewed general medical journal) called “Development of a Rational State to Assess the Harm of Drugs.”

The most addictive drug is Heroin (diacetylmorphine), the rating of Heroin is 3.0. Heroin is a drug that was developed in the 1870s by combining acetyl groups with the molecule morphine. When Heroin is injected to the body it converts into morphine and gives the users a significant psychological and physical high.

It acts as a depressant on the CNS. In Newyer Dutch study, the specifically examined crack cocaine found its addictive properties to be greater than standard forms such as powder. Smoking crack cocaine allows the drug to be delivered to the brain quicker than snorting.

Crystal meth is a synthetic stimulant, when taken it significantly increases activity in the CNS. Crystal meth is considered one of the harmful drugs in world. It is a white crystalline drug, people inhale it by nose.

Heroin, opium, cocaine, crystal meth types of drugs are being highly used in different areas of Balochistan and Karachi. Such as Lyari town or other Baloch areas in Karachi where couple of drugs addicted  can be seen lying on footpath, streets and under the trucks, where they use drugs. Whenever I get to see them, it hits me hard in my mind that how our people of nation inhale these poisonous drugs which damage them both mentally and physically.

Same situation exists in Balochistan where youngsters and elders use drugs; letting their lives destroy. Pasni is an area of district Gwadar, Balochistan where I have witnessed many drug addicted people. In this area where for the sake of drugs, the drug usurers steal things from house to house in night, on morning they beg.

In different areas of Balochistan and Karachi drugs are sold openly on daily basis. Drug dealers openly spread this poison in our society where our youth and elders are victim of it. Unfortunately, the state authorities are silent over this issue. If today we remain silent on it, then slowly and rapidly it will destroy our whole society.

The government, Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) and all other state’s authorities must play their role to stop selling drugs as soon as possible, and end the intoxication of poison in our society.
