QUETTA: ‘UNHCR celebrated World Refugee Day with refugees who shared their stories, poetry, songs and challenges with the audience. The World Refugee Day 2021 theme is inclusion, which emphasizes the advantages to both refugees and their host countries of integrating refugee populations into national health, education, and employment systems.
The Governor of Balochistan Justice (Retired) Mr. Amanullah Khan Yasinzai was a chief guest of the event. While addressing the occasion, he said that the life of refugees is never easy and that Pakistan has shown solidarity with refugees for over four decades. He also appreciated UNHCR for understanding the challenges faced by the host community and for supporting the Government of Balochistan in public health and education sectors.
The UNHCR Deputy Representative, Ms. Tammi Sharpe, the Commissioner of Afghan Refugees, Brigadier (Retired) Mr. Masud Ahmed Khan, and the Head of UNHCR’s Sub-Office in Quetta, Mr. Erwin Policar, also spoke on the occasion. They stressed the importance of refugee inclusion so that no one is left behind.
