Islamabad – Over 25 million unverified Subscriber Identity Modules (SIMs) have been blocked by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) when the three month deadline for biometric verification of SIMs ended on Sunday.
This announcement was made by Chairman of PTA Dr. Ismail Shah on Monday.
The five telecom operators of Pakistan, Mobilink, Ufone, Telenor, Warid and Zong launched biometric verification of prepaid SIMs on January 13 on directives of PTA.
Chairman PTA added that people can get their SIMs unblocked by going to customer service centers of the concerned operator during the next six months.
“Cellular companies operating across the country used around 80,000 biometric machines for the purpose of SIM verification,” revealed Dr. Shah. He congratulated and thanked the cellular companies for their cooperation with PTA and government of Pakistan.
