International Women’s Day Celebrated in Lasbela

Lasbela: Welfare Association for New Generation (WANG) in Collaboration with Lasbela University celebrated International Women’s Day, on Tuesday.

The 2016 theme for International Women’s Day is “Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step It Up for Gender Equality”. The United Nations observance on 8 March will reflect on how to accelerate the 2030 Agenda, building momentum for the effective implementation of the new Sustainable Development Goals.

Event was attended by hundreds of participants including students, teachers, young women, community notables and housewives. Speaking to the audience speakers highlighted the contributions of women in the development of society and particularly contributions of women in Balochistan’s society.

Chief guest Dr, Dost Mohammad Baloch Vice Chancellor of Lasbela University highlighted the contribution and commitment of women in nation building. Speaking at the moment he assured to create more opportunities as an educationist for young girls of Balochistan and promised to increase number of seats for female students in his university.

Speakers highlighted the issues being faced by women in Balochistan including early force marriages, employment opportunities for women and lake of participation in decision-making process.

As part of celebration different performance by kids and students energized the audience, performance threw light on challenges and opportunities available to women of Balochistan.
