Agriculture holds great significance for Pakistan. Pakistan has great potential of agriculture as the agriculture sector is very important at national and international level. Agricultural is the backbone of Pakistan’s economy and is contributing 25% to Gross Domestic Product.
Agriculture sector plays a vital role in the economic development of a country. It is confirmed and supported by the fact that the GDP growth rate in Pakistan is mostly dependent upon the growth rate in agriculture sector. If the rate of growth in agriculture sector remains low, it generates shortage of food, and other necessary raw materials in the country and the prices of the essential goods go up.
The government has to increase efforts to develop and promote value chains in the agriculture sector which would not only help alleviate poverty but also fetch foreign exchange.
