Letter: State of Education in Balochistan

Balochistan, the largest province of Pakistan is most backward in terms of Education. Even insurgency-ridden FATA has been ranked better then Balochistan.

There are number of factors for this dismal state of Education, mainly; deprivation of Quality Education by not establishing institutes such as Government College University Lahore, Quaid-e-Azam University and so on. Apart from that, Feudalism, Negligence of Politicians and Target killing of Teachers are few other reasons.

However credit goes to Dr. Malik Baloch who has decided to improve standards of education by taking few key steps including Educational Emergency, Enhancement of Education budget, recruitment of educators through NTS, Taking strict action against absentees and eradication of cheating from Exams.

Federal Government and HEC should also play their role in raising the standard of education in Balochistan. In short term, quota of admissions to prestigious institutions of the other provinces and foreign scholarships should be increased for students of Balochistan. In long term new institutes should be established. Islamabad should realize that the solution to the problems of Balochistan lies in Education.
