Quetta: Balochistan Assembly Speaker Raheela Hameed Khan Durrani assumed the charge of acting governor of Balochistan on Tuesday as the Governor Muhammad Khan Achakzai left for China on a 10-day official visit.
Raheela Hameed Durrani is the first woman to take the charge of the acting governor of Balochistan. She is also the first woman speaker of the provincial assembly and she has been elected as a speaker unopposed.
She was elected as a member of Balochistan Assembly on a ticket from the Pakistan Muslim league-N on a special seat for women in the 2013 general elections. She was also elected as the Member Provincial Assembly Balochistan in general election 2002 and 2008.
Raheela Hameed is currently an active member of Public Safety Commission Balochistan, National Commission on Status of Women and Balochistan Olympic Association.
