Recently International Labor Organization has released a Global Wage Report 2016-17 which claims that India suffers the most in terms of gender pay gap. This results that men are earning more than women in similar jobs with the gap exceeding 30%. In other words, among the large economies, South Korea suffers from a gap of 37% and resulting the only country worst than India. While Singapore faces the lowest gender wage disparity at 3%.
So, gender pay gap is very wide in India as it poorly represents the women in the top brackets of wager-earners. Gender pay gap exists in India because the care work carried by the women is undervalued as it is seen as a natural female attribute rather than a skill to be acquired.
The report also had a glance over the wages inequality. In India, the top 1% earns 33 times what the bottom 10% did. The top 10% also earned 43% of all wages.Since 2006,average wages rose by 60% in India, whole they more than doubled in China.
