Letter: The state of human rights in Pakistan

Pakistan is suffering from a serious issue which is low ranking of human rights record. A report expressed out that the total number of missing persons in Pakistan stands at 1,219 according to the Human Rights of Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) report. Of these, 728 vanished within the span of just 12 months; unsurprisingly, the country’s human rights record is grim and a perusal of the statistics laid out in the state of Human Rights 2016 shows that matters are getting worse rapidly in the country.

This is an astonishment that the issue had been forefront of public debate but there is lack of implementation when it comes to the state’s promises to resolve the issue.

However, The increasing case of rape, gang rape and abduction have been witnessed in Punjab in last year while the frequency of bank robberies and theft of motorcycles and mobile phones went up in Karachi, as well as, child sexual abuse including abduction, missing children, and child marriage had shown increase of 10 percent from 2015 which stood at 4,139 during the year under review. While boosting case of honor crimes had also been a partly result of increased reporting of such incidents which brings the number of child abuse victims 11 per day.
