Letter: Natural disasters in Pakistan

In last few years, Pakistan is proved to be the most affected country from natural disasters. Pakistan is completely affected from climate conditions which is causing various form of natural disasters including floods, earthquakes, tsunamis, droughts, hurricanes and others.

The disaster management shows that the Balochistan, AJK and Gilgit-Balistan are most vulnerable to earthquakes and Sindh and Punjab are mostly suffering from floods as they are low-lying areas. The most dangerous disasters includes the 1935 Quetta earthquake where over 60,000 people were killed, the 1950 floods which killed around 2900 and over 900,000 people became homeless, the 1974 Hunza earthquake where more than 5300 people lost their lives, the 2005 Kashmir quake which killed 73000 people and affected over 1.5 million people.

The recent earthquakes was in  Awaran district of Balochistan and KPK where hundreds of people were killed and still people are suffering from several problems. As I concern about the earthquake of Awaran still the people are homeless and suffering from umpteenth problems.

The natural disasters can happen at any time, no one can imagine it. It is responsibility of the government to ensure that the affected people from natural disasters are always supported by the government.

Sana Samad,Turbat.
