Letter: Child Mortality in Balochistan

Child mortality is a worldwide crisis. Pakistan has the highest child mortality rate in the world. Every year, out of 1,000 children 86 die before reaching their 5th year preventability. According to an estimate, approximately 29,000 children under the age of 5-20 each minute die every day. According to Pakistan’s demographic and health surrey 2012-13 around of 45 of children show evidence of chronic malnutrition. Above all, Punjab and Balochistan have extremely high level of child mortality.

There are major causes to this critical issue which are lack of access to health and sanitation service and so on. Even though, diseases like diarrhea, malaria, pneumonia are the reasons of high mortality rate. Children deserve a healthy life. Therefore the government is requested to pay heed towards the health of children and curb child mortality.
