Letter: International Day of the Girl Child

International Day of Girl Child is celebrated on October 11, to ensure full safety of girl’s rights. Unfortunately only we know how to celebrate the day, but do not have idea that how to act upon. Every year around 70,000 cases of violence against girls children are reported and the exact numbers are unknown, they can be two time higher from these records.

The girl children are suffering from lack of schooling, health of healthcare facilities, child labour, abduction, sexual assault and murder. Several girl children beg, pick up garbage instead of bags and other things to survive. These children are called the street children of Pakistan, not the girl children of Pakistan. The little girls are facing problems in every aspect of their lives. Only government can change the dark lives into bright but there is no action to do so. I request the government to provide the fundamental rights of small girls and ensure full protection of girls.
